Tara Oceans & Tara Med EXPEDITIONS
The Plankton Chronicles project was born from a desire to popularize plankton and the Tara Oceans expedition conceived by Eric Karsenti, Christian Sardet and Gaby Gorsky with twenty scientific coordinators together with Etienne Bourgois and Romain Troublé from the Tara Expeditions Foundation. For 3 years (2009 to 2012) the schooner Tara collected 30,000 plankton samples and environmental data in all oceans. The first global results have been published in five articles in a special issue of Science magazine in May 2015. In 2013-2014 Tara crisscrossed the Mediterranean to assess the extent of micro-plastic pollution as part of the Tara Med expedition organized by the director of the Oceanographic Observatory of Villefranche sur Mer Gaby Gorsky and many collaborators.
